Book Review: Making the Team

“Making the Team” by Derrick and Stephanie Moore is a fabulous read. This fictional book features seven chapters and has a football-themed word search at the end of each chapter. This wonderful book also has a great moral.

The plot of this book is that Alec (a fourth-grader) has a bit of a hard time trying to get over the fact that his parents got divorced and that his mom went to Los Angeles. He has a hard time getting along with his brother, but he got over that. And after a while, on Thanksgiving Day, his mom returned home. He also accepted Christ that day, too.

This book shows that praying and trusting God is the best way to overcome your problems and fears in your life. I hope this review was helpful to you. I would also give it a five star rating!

Book Reviews: Finding God in the Bible

Finding God in the bible is an excellent book. Darren’s new book you just can’t put down! It is filled with stories from all over the New Testament. The ten chapters are filled with wisdom, and Darren is hilarious!

As you read through the book you find many stories you may have even forgotten were in the bible. From the dramatic story of David and Goliath to Moses and the burning bush, Darren goes through the Old Testament. He also picks out the little details you may have forgotten about. In addition, Darren is the director of the movies Father of Lights, Furious Love, and Finger of God. In the book he has several exclusive stories about making those movies.

If you are thinking about reading this book, I would highly recommend you do so. The book is a great read and it has an excellent value!

Book Review: The 5 Love Languages of Children

If you've got children, this book is a must read!  The 5 Love Languages of Children, by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell, is a fabulous book outlining the most common ways you can show and express love to your kids.  It will also help you decipher what 'love language' {or languages} each of your kids has!

The 'love languages' include: Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Gifts, and Acts of Service.  There is a chapter devoted to each love language, and you'll be able to dive into the details of each... while learning how to effectively 'speak' that language as well!  I strongly recommend this book for all parents ~ regardless of the age of your children.  It will make a strong and lasting impact!

Book Review: Undeniably Yours

Meg Cole is carrying on life as usual, that is until her father passes away and leaves quite the inheritance.  Not only does her inheritance include a large sum of money and assets, it also comes along with a previous commitment she is required to uphold.. carrying on his business.  The business she knows little about or cares to run.  That is until she meets Bo Porter, the head manager of her late father's Thoroughbred racehorse farm!

Undeniably Yours is a sweet modern-day romance novel.  It was a great read, however I honestly was surprised and somewhat disappointed by some of the details of the story... not typical of a Christian romance novel.  Despite that, the fun story covers a wide variety of down-to-earth and common issues we have all faced or been exposed to in some way or another.

Book Review: Chivalry

Chivalry by Zach Hunter is an excellent read! As Zach says, “Embark on the quest for Chivalry … and every day will be an adventure as you discover how to defend others, act with integrity, and live with courage and significance.”

Chivalry has ten chapters and is a page turner! If you want to learn to treat people right, this is the book to read! If you think you might get bored… think again! As Zack says, “It’s a way for young men and woman – all of us – to live justly in an unjust world.”

When I read this book I could see Zach’s strong Christian faith shining through. It is really reassuring having someone to come alongside of in mission of chivalry. Also, this book is really encouraging and practical for everyday life.

Book Review: Do What Jesus Did

Do what Jesus did by Robby Dawkins is a thrilling read. All two hundred fifty-one pages are filled with, as Robby says,” practical ways to take hold of your God-Given “power tools”- prophetic ministry, healing, ministering the presence of God and deliverance from demonic power”.

Some of the thrilling stories include miraculous healings, demonic deliverance, and exciting salvation stories! If you are bored this summer, here is one way to be thrilled for many many hours.

One of the things I loved about his book was the inspirational stories as well as his excellent advice on how to pray for people through the Holy Spirit. In 1996 Robby Dawkins planted a church among the urban poor in Aurora, Illinois with his wife Angie. Now with six sons they continue to pastor their growing exciting church.

Book Review: Gods at War

‘Gods at War’, by Kyle Idleman, is a great book. This book underlines some nine idols that are constantly battling for one and another’s heart. Gods at War shows you just how to defeat these idols. This book has 4 main sections. The first section of this book shows how idolatry is the issue, and that your heart is a battling ground for the idols that try to become #1 in your heart.

The second section is titled, “the temple of pleasure”. The first chapter of this section shows how to defeat the idol of food. This chapter shows how to overcome over-eating. There are also 2 more chapters that are focusing on 2 different idols, with each chapter having an idol ID at the end.

The third section of this book is called, “the temple of power”. The three idols this section highlights are the gods of success, money, and power. The fourth, and final section of this book is titled, “the temple of love”. This section highlights 3 gods also battling for one and another’s hearts. For me, all thirteen chapters of this book were very exciting! You will have to read this book!

Book Review: Just Like Jesus Devotional

Max Lucado’s book (Just Like Jesus) is a masterpiece! “Just Like Jesus” is a thirty day devotional that will show you who Jesus really was.

Each day in the book starts with scripture then the devotional, at the end to finish it up includes a review, more scripture, and reflecting on what Jesus would have done in the situation.

Each daily devotion shows you how Jesus can really relate to your circumstances. I personally learned a lot from this book as it draws out why God so loved the world to give us an incredible loving & caring heart just like Jesus.

Book Review: Grace

I enjoyed reading the book Grace, by Max Lucado. He looked on the the subject quite different than I really did expect it to be. It was a great mix of humor and spiritual truths.

Thinking of what it says, he hit the subject like a home run. It highly encouraged my faith about how much God really loves us. After the eleven chapters followed by the conclusion, there is a reader's guide; eleven shorter chapters, like a study guide.  It would be beneficial for both individual or group studies.

Book Review: Twelve Unlikely Heroes

Twelve Unlikely Heroes: How God Commissioned Unexpected People in the Bible and What He Wants to Do with You is an excellent book!

John MacArthur dives deep into each biblical character with detail and it may surprise you how such unlikely heroes can be commissioned by God to reach the multitudes.

If you feel inadequate or insubstantial for God to work through you, this is the book for you. The people God chooses to work through don’t always look like the prime candidates. But to God, no one is too small for Him!

Running For My Life

In 1985, a boy named Lopez was born in a desolate village in Sudan. This is a story of his life... from war-torn Sudan to an American Olympic athlete!

One Sunday morning, when little Lopez was at his church's humble outdoor service, trucks pulled up and rebel soldiers jumped out of the back of the trucks. The pastor tried to reason with them, but the soldiers herded all the children into the back of the trucks.

A tarp was tied down so tight over the truck-bed to prevent escape, that it let in no fresh air. Hours later, the truck came to a halt. The children were blindfolded and marched in a line. After a while they came to a stop in a thatched hut. Smaller than a standard living room, there were nearly 80 kids crammed in.

While there, Lopez met three older boys (also known as angels). They watched over him and most likely saved his life. Weeks later they crept out of the camp at night, and ran for there lives. When they were thirsty they miraculously found water and when they were hungry they always found food. Days later they ran into the Kenyan border guards who treated them kindly, then they were taken to a refugee camp a few miles away.

It took three weeks for Lopez's feet to heal from the running. After he could walk again, The angels disappeared without a trace. For the next ten years, Lopez would live here before getting sent to America and later going on to become an American Olympic athlete.

Running For My Life is an incredible story, full of wild twists and turns, and the most unexpected miracles along the way.  Lopez is an inspiration to all, and has incredible faith. This is a humorous book and very inspiring. I definitely recommend this book!!
